Transcription starts while you are still speaking, so the wait after you stop is short rather than a pause you sit through.
What that means in practice is that the wait stops being a wait. Below roughly a second, you stop composing a sentence and then dictating it; you just talk.
The speed comes at a cost worth stating plainly: this is a cloud service, so it needs a connection. There is no offline mode.
